How Ylang Ylang got me in the water

How Ylang Ylang got me in the water

On our 2016 Thanksgiving trip to the beach, my 16 and 11 year old daughters had no fear of the cold ocean water.  I sat on the beach, warmed by the sun, happily reading and watching them from a distance. I watched them splash around and play together, snorkeling and trying to catch little waves on the boogie board.  Every year they ask me to get in the water, and every year I only make it in the water up to my ankles.  The water is too cold for me!One morning while everyone was asleep, I was enjoying the sunrise, reading and journaling, and I began to think about how grown up they're getting.  My two oldest are in college, and I still have this precious time with the two youngest. I questioned if I was allowing myself to have fun with them - their kind of fun.  I felt inspired to get my Ylang Ylang essential oil out and put some over my heart. I found myself thinking of my intention to embrace that childhood fun and carefree nature that I know is not very natural for me.  I really wanted to create a memory with them where they felt I was "all in,” fully present, just having fun.  I began to question if that was even possible for me, but I let that thought go and just trusted that I would know how to have fun with them. The three of us went down to the beach once the air warmed up a bit.  I set up my beach chair, got my book out, and the girls headed for the water.  Within a minute or so, two families set up their stuff fairly close to ours.  The beach wasn't crowded at all, but there they were.  Each family had small children. They let the kids loose on the beach to play and I realized that I was being shown what childhood carefree fun looked like and felt like!  Kids were laughing and giggling and running around, so excited to be there.  They squealed as the cold water hit their feet, but they didn't let it stop them!  They went full in and were loving every minute of it!  One little girl stood at the edge of the ocean, clearly wishing the water was warmer.  Her grandpa and siblings were coaxing her to come in and enjoy the fun.  She stood there, trying to decide, looking back at her towel and sand toys, and finally called out - “WHY do I have this personality?”  She then ran into the water, got completely in, without hesitation, and was laughing and playing with her siblings in no time!  Just then, both of my daughters approached me.  "Please, mom," they said. "Please come in the water with us, it's not that bad!"  Without even hesitating, I got up and said okay!  I eased myself into the water, even though they kept telling me it's better to just take one big leap in.  They were patient with me, and before I knew it, I was completely in and the three of us played in the water for at least an hour!  It was my most favorite time of our trip.  I was fully present in that moment, and it felt amazing.  My intention of understanding that childhood carefree feeling was gifted to me, supported by the Ylang Ylang oil - known as the oil of the inner child.  And that's how Ylang Ylang got me into the cold ocean water!
