Feeling grateful even when things fall apart

Feeling grateful even when things fall apart

I think one of the most difficult things in life is to feel grateful no matter what.  I am constantly reminding myself, my children, and my clients:  What you focus on expands. It is human nature to notice things that go wrong in our lives.  It is human nature to see the negative more quickly than the positive and to talk and talk about all that has gone wrong in a situation.  I have gotten caught up in that so many times throughout my life - whether it's a family situation, a money situation, a friend situation, with my kids, my marriage, what's happening in the government, schools, or the world in general.  The truth is that there's always going to be some drama, some disappointment, something...It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized I could chooseto focus on something different.  I could chooseto see the good.  I could choose to let go of negative thoughts and words of lack, limitation, judgement, criticism, and drama...and instead, I could choose to seethe good, focuson the good and eventually learn to feelthe good - all of the time. How has it changed my life?  I for sure feel better about myself!  I feel more confident and happy when I am choosing to see the good in myself, others, and the world.  My heart and mind are more open. Here is an example of how one aspect of my life changed by choosing to feel gratitude -  I spent many years of my life worrying about money.  I knew it was an issue in my parent's relationship, but I did not quite understand what was going on as a child.  I grew up believing, as most people do, that there is a struggle around money.  I saw other people's abundance, but never felt like I had an abundance of money.  Fast forward several years to my marriage.  My husband and I both had limiting beliefs about money.  If you were a fly on the wall, you may have heard in our conversations statements like:  We don't make enough money.  We can't afford that.  We spend more than we make and we are barely getting by.  We'll never get ahead.  Kids are so expensive.  There is only so much money I can make in this job. We fell into the trap of feeling lack and limitation, but we did not know any better. As time passed, I knew I did not want to stay in this situation.  I wanted something better, but it did not have to do with better "stuff."  I wanted to feel better about money.  I wanted to find out what it meant to live in the flow of abundance, and not just with money.  As my heart began to open to the idea that something different was possible, opportunities to learn more began showing up in my life.  People with different mindsets than mine, and books with new ideas that expanded my perspective came to me.  And what was the common factor in everything I was learning??  GRATITUDE.  Not only stating what I was grateful for, but really focusing on it and feeling it. Gratitude changes everything.  Focusing on gratitude brings more to be grateful for.  Focus on what is going right in your life, and your gratitude for life will increase.  Not only that, but you begin to give up the mental struggle with what is going wrong and begin to see the truth - that there are endless possibilities for you, an abundance of possibilities! How can I be so sure?  Because I have experienced it.  I AM experiencing it.  Do I have it all figured out perfectly??  No!  Life is a process of learning and becoming and practicing what we learn.  Gratitude is your friend.  Embrace it.  It will embrace you when it feels like things are falling apart.  It will open you up to receiving what you never thought possible.  Gratitude will blast away your limiting thoughts and show you how to expand your life in beautiful and abundant ways. You are worthy and deserving of feeling grateful all of the time!Start today.  Start simple.  Put your worries aside. Write down 3 things you are grateful for every morning and every night. Focus on that feeling of gratitude.  Go back to that feeling whenever you are tempted to think about what is going wrong.  Focus on gratitude.  You've got this!
