Are you stuck in the fall?

Are you stuck in the fall?

It is winter here in Alabama, and one thing that I love about Alabama is the winter. There are many days that it is warm enough to just throw on a sweatshirt in the morning and go for a walk around the neighborhood.  One morning, a few weeks ago, that's exactly what I did.  As I was walking along, something caught my eye - these two trees: They still had their leaves on them.  I looked around and all the other trees were bare.  They had dropped their leaves in the fall, a few months ago.  I thought it was so curious that these trees were still hanging on to their old leaves.  I thought about myself and how sometimes I am like those trees.  Sometimes I hold onto old hurts and resentments, and it certainly doesn't enhance my beauty inside or out.  Why do I refuse to let them go?  Maybe on some level I feel I will be exposed or unprotected from pain without them.  The truth is that when we hold onto all our old pain, we don't have room to let in new possibilities, healing, and love.Sometimes letting go feels scary and uncomfortable.  The thought of letting go of a part of you that has been with you for so long, even if it does hurt, seems overwhelming.  How will you know where to begin?  What if there is so much to let go of that you can't do it on your own?  It's OKAY.  You are not alone.  Everyone has leaves to drop.  Everyone is faced with the choice of letting go of the old to make room for the new. What do you need to let go of to make room for new buds of hope, forgiveness, healing and love in your life?  What will your life look like when you let all the old stuff fall away?  Whatever it looks like, it will be more beautiful than you could ever imagine!
